The trial of Belarusian dissident Alice Bialatsky, who won the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize, has begun in Minsk, the human rights organization Viasna, which he founded, has announced.
The Viasna Center announced on social networks that Ales Bialiatsky and his companions Valentin Stefanovic and Vladimir Lampkovich were in the dock at the Minsk court at the start of the hearing. The three Belarusian dissidents have been detained since July 2021. The Viasna (Spring) Center, the main human rights organization in Belarus, founded by Alice Bialiatsky in 1996, was awarded the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize along with two others human rights organizations. Rights and Memorial (Russia) and Center for Individual Liberties (Ukraine).
The three organizations from countries considered war heroes in Ukraine were honored for their commitment to “human rights, democracy and peaceful coexistence” against the forces of authoritarianism.
