CLEANING DURING COVID 19
Cleaning means removing dust, dirt, and organic matter physically from surfaces. Disinfecting means using chemicals to kill disease-causing microbes on surfaces. It’s important to clean before disinfecting because organic matter and dirt can reduce the ability of disinfectants to kill germs. To kill the covid 19 virus, the combination of cleaning and disinfection will be more effective. Cleaning reduces the soil load on the surface, allowing the disinfectant to work and kill all types of microorganisms.
Workplaces should clean daily and special attention should be given to frequently touched surfaces like tabletops, door handles, light switches, desks, toilets, taps, TV remotes, kitchen surfaces, and cupboard handles. Surfaces and fittings should be cleaned more frequently when visibly soiled and used repeatedly by a number of people. Soap and water should be used for hand hygiene when hands are visibly soiled .when hands have been contaminated from contact with environmental surfaces, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Cleaning hands regularly helps to reduce environmental contamination.
Wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. Gloves should be removed after each cleaning. If you have reusable gloves, those gloves will be suitable for cleaning and disinfection of surfaces for COVID-19 and should not be used for other purposes. Consult the manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning and disinfection products are used.
For soft surfaces such as carpeted floor, rugs, and drapes, first, remove visible contamination and clean with appropriate cleaners indicated for the cleaning of these surfaces.
